I know that the government has just thrown Elementary and Preschool teachers a huge curveball. At this point I don’t know anything more than what’s in the media concerning the first week of January. I will be reaching out to the board shortly and will provide updates as soon as I know anything more.

Please note that you should be regularly checking your ESSB email for updates in the next two weeks. All employees who have hiring letters will be paid during this time. It is entirely possible that there could be mistakes on pays this week because of timesheets not being received in time. Please be patient things will get corrected but it might take some time. ESTA will continue to be open to answer your questions, but be patient if you don’t get an answer to a question it’s because I don’t have the answer, when I get it, you will have the answers. This is a completely new situation for everyone and requires patience and understanding. The ESTA website and Facebook page will be updated regularly please check there for the most current information.
March 15th, 2020 (2:25 PM)
Please make sure to check your ESSB E-Mail, as updates will be sent from ESSB to you as they become available. An email was sent out earlier today from Diane Smith (Director of Human Resources).
Please continue to take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Dear members,
As many of you are no doubt aware the Quebec government announced today several precautions to be taken in light of the Corona virus epidemic. This is the information that I have received to date:
1 - Teachers returning from international travel on or after March 12, MUST self isolate for 14 days, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.
2- Teachers who returned from international travel before March 12 do not need to self isolate unless they have symptoms. If they develop any flu like symptoms they must self isolate immediately and notify call 1-877-644-4545 for further information and instructions.
3- All gatherings of more than 250 are cancelled.
4 - All international travel with students is to be cancelled.
5- Any school that has a confirmed case either staff or students will be closed for 14 days.
6- Employees who self isolate or who are quarantined will be paid their full salaries. No further information on use of sick days.
7- Staff should always follow recommendations of their doctors and public health. If you are asked to self isolate you should do so.
8- Teachers who are planning on traveling at Easter, if you have requested a Leave of Absence for a few days to extend your holiday and decide to cancel your holiday and therefore your LOA should be sure to notify your principal, HR and payroll, in writing. ESTA should be copied on the email.
As I receive more information it will be shared with you.
Union delegates please print a copy of this and post it in your schools.
Thank you,
Gillian
